The pleasure of flipping pages is an advantage that printed books have over digital ones. XFlip makes it possible to convert traditional documents to page flipping publications. Your project can include PDF or MS Office files, images, video and audio files, but the best part is that it can be exported in various formats. You will be able to publish your new document on a web site, turn it into a screensaver, read it on tablets or smartphones and more.

XFlip works on Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7. It requires Adobe Flash Player 9 or above, at least 512 MB of RAM and 200 MB of free disk space. You will also need Visual C++ 2008 or a later version. If you don't have it, the setup wizard will install it automatically.

Turning a document into a page flipping publication is quite easy. It is sufficient to load a document on the interface and hit the Publish icon, located on a toolbar, to convert it to another format, but you can make various adjustments along the way. The software allows you to import an entire document, odd or even pages or a custom selection. When you load a document, XFlip will organize its pages in groups of two.

Loaded pages are displayed in the central region of the interface. They are also displayed on the lower part of the window, where you can move them to other positions, by dragging and dropping them. You can use a series of tools, located on the left side of the window, to insert text, videos, audio files or hot spots. Inserted elements can be adjusted separately. You may link text with a different page, in the current document, a web page or an email address. Inserted videos or sound tracks can be set to play automatically on a loop and more.

The software allows you to preview your publication on the same interface. You can either click a page's margins to flip it or use a series of controls, beneath the document, to switch between pages, mute the loaded music, zoom, search and more. Page flipping publications can be saved as HTML files, SWF videos, executables, ZIP archives, screen savers or apps. Depending on the selected format, a few options will be made available, which you can use to create auto-run files for CDs or to create a mobile version of your publication, which can be used on the Apple iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

Pros

You can turn a traditional document into a page flipping publication. The software allows you to insert entire documents or specific pages, which can be re-arranged without any difficulties. Media files can be inserted as well and you can export your project in various formats.

Cons

The user interface takes up most of the screen and you can not resize it. If you process your documents with XFlip, you will be able to read them in a comfortable and elegant fashion on your computer or various mobile devices.
